As Dwayne Henley swiftly strode toward a crime scene outside his son’s South Side apartment building, he realized his fears for the young man’s safety were confirmed.
Only a few months ago, Dwayne Triplett, 32, a single father of three, had moved to a second-floor apartment in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood. Triplett, a local contractor, was given free board by a landlord who had hired Triplett and his father to paint the building.
But Henley started growing concerned for Triplett after someone shattered the windows of his car and stole some of his belongings inside.
“I was scared for him over there,” Henley said. “I told him, ‘You need to get from over there. You can’t be doing that, buying rims and flashing it in front of these young boys.’ ”
About 8:35 a.m. Sunday, Triplett was discovered slumped over the driver's seat of a gray BMW in the 1100 block of West 72nd Street. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head and chest, and was pronounced dead on the scene, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a police spokeswoman. Read more here
