Description

According circuit schematic like in Figure 1. above, that one of the main component that used is LM317 IC as adjustable voltage regulated. From the sheet data of LM317 IC give us the features are Output Voltage Range Adjustable From 1.25 V to 37 V, Output Current Greater Than 1.5 A, Internal Short-Circuit Current Limiting, Thermal Overload Protection, and Output Safe-Area Compensation. Still from the sheet data of LM317 IC describe that this LM317 device is an adjustable three-terminal positive-voltage regulator capable of supplying more than 1.5 A over an output-voltage range of 1.25 V to 37 V. It requires only two external resistors to set the output voltage. The device features a typical line regulation of 0.01% and typical load regulation of 0.1%. It includes current limiting, thermal overload protection, and safe operating area protection. Overload protection remains functional even if the 2 Applications ADJUST terminal is disconnected.

With the features and description of LM317 IC in this circuit schematic of Combination Adjustable Power Supply with Battery Charger used to adjust output regulated voltage from 1.25 volt until 6 volt maximum. It is because although this IC can produce adjustable voltage until 37 volt but in this circuit only 6 volt only because of the input voltage that only 6 volt from output transformer.

You also must write that the device that can supply with this circuit also only for electronic with low power with need 1.5 Ampere. So, when you calculate with power you only can supply it maximum for 9 watts.

Beside to get adjustable power supply, in this circuit schematic like in Figure 1. above also can be used to charge 6 volt battery that only install bridge diodes with output 6 VAC. The bridge diodes used to convert AC to DC with good rectify. Thing about how much power output of this battery charger you can adjust with using transformer and bridge diodes. When you want to get 5 Ampere output to charge battery you can use 5 ampere transformer with bridge diode 5 ampere. So, it is easy to adjust power you need with adjust two these components, transformer and diodes.
